MEET THE OWNER
Dan Ostvig — Third-Generation Owner
Dan became the third-generation owner of Ostvig Tree Care in March 2024, stepping in to lead a company his great-grandfather, Marty, started in 1933 and that his father Jim had led since 1987. Since taking over, he's continued modernizing the company through investments in people, equipment, and technology while staying true to his family's commitment to quality tree care.
Dan studied economics and spent six years in banking after completing a White House internship. But he eventually asked himself a simple question: Is this really what I want to do? The answer brought him back to the family business, where he's focused on building a workplace that attracts great people and delivering the level of tree care customers have trusted for generations.
A seventh-generation Minnesotan, Dan grew up in Wayzata and graduated from Orono High School. His ancestors came to Minnesota as loggers in the north woods, making tree care part of his family's story long before Ostvig Tree Care was founded. For Dan, caring for trees isn't just a business. It's carrying on a family legacy.
Dan's philosophy: "If you build a great company with a great story, employees, and reputation, the clients (or should I say tree lovers?) will come.”
